greetings,
Out here in Eastern Avacal and in most of Avacal for that matter the
filk is what is heard most often. Though it is true that I agree that
filks should not be done at feasts, I am guilty of doing just that, but
it truly depends on the filk.
Before I go on let me explain what a filk is to me, a filk is a song
modern folk, or traditional or period that has new words put to them.
This is what I have been taught since I first joined 4 years ago and
that is what I am still doing today.

At a feast I really don't want to hear a song say about ones auto did
or did'nt get them to an event, no matter what the tune may be or the
moose song for that matter, leave it for the post-revel.
I ,for example, have filked Barret's Privateers and it has nothing to
do with " looking in from the outside" it has SCA relevent material
through out.
I have also done a filk of the tune the chemical workers song by Great
big Sea, there is nothing of mundanity whatsoever in it at all.

let me close by saying that filks are a wonderfuly simple way for new
members as well as those who are not as expierienced in song writting to
start out.

In Service to Their Majesties I Remain
L Stragin MacGregor
Royal Bard of An Tir
