Minutes of the Carolingian Great Council Meeting, 5 July 1993

Meeting called to order at:  7:10 pm

Deputy Seneschal (Lady Eowyn Eilonwy of Alewife Brook):  My June issue of 
Vinland i Dag, the Northern Region newsletter is missing.  I had it at the 
last Council meeting and noticed it was missing last week.  If you 
accidently picked it up at the last Council meeting, I'd like it back.

Arts and Sciences (Master Anton of Winteroak):  
- - I saw a preliminary copy of Solveig's work which the Beneficium paid for.
- - There is a new Kingdom Arts and Sciences Officer, Mistress Elayne 
Courtenay.

Golden Gryphon (Lord Tibor of Rock Valley):  Heraldic processing has 
changed.  The Kingdom has been broken up into regions for processing 
submissions and there will be smaller, more frequent letters of comment.  
Carolingia just had four heralds graduate and leave the area, so help is 
needed.  Now is a good time to start learning about heraldry.

Chronicler (Mistress Elayne Courtenay):  August will be the A&S issue.  It 
will also include the Carolingian laws if there is space.  The deadline for 
the August issue is July 15 for submissions on paper and July 31 for 
electronic submissions.  So that there is time to put out the newsletter 
before Pennsic and because not much will be going on, there will be no 
calendar in the August issue.

Mistress of Lists & Mistress of Fencing Lists (Bryttan):  They say hi.

Historian-Librarian (Lady Caitlin Davies):  Hi.

Secretary (Lady Avelina Perceval):  Hi.

Magister (Lord Stefan Skywatcher):  Hi.

Hot line (Lord Taran of Windy Hill):  Please keep us up to date on 
activities.
Someone wants to pave the SCA's 100 car parking lot.

Dance (Lady Roselyne Sarah L'Estrangere):  Dance practice continues on 
Wednesdays in MIT room 16-310.  We are doing some new stuff.  Dance 
practice will be happening during Pennsic for those who are here.  We are 
thinking of changing practices to another night in the fall.  Talk to us if 
you have an opinion.

Steward(Lord Colin Ursell):  Hi.

Marshal of Fence (Lady Morgaine ferch Cadwr):  Fencing continues at the 
usual times in the usual places.  Everyone is welcome.

Jongleurs (Lady Tibicen Blackmane):  Hi.  The instrumentalists will be at 
dance practice this week.

Seneschal of the Towers(Theodwine of Faulconbridge):  Hello.

Calligrapher's Guild(Master Anton of Winteroak):  There will be a meeting 
on July 14 at the Baron and Baroness's.  I'm still going to Fenmere on 
Monday nights.  I may also start showing up at Mitgaard and Southbanke, if 
my schedule permits.

Baron's Troupe of Mummers(Lord Aleksandr Yevsha):  
- - Lady Catrin o'r Rhyd For is looking for someone to direct a play by Lord 
Franz Joder von Joderhuebel sometime this fall, possibly for University.
- - Commedia del'Arte, not part of mummers, but a convenient place to say 
this, has a busy fall performance schedule.  Practices are Tuesdays in 
16-310 at MIT.

Master Justin du Coeur:  The play reading I ran last month was so 
successful that I'm going to run another one this month.  Talk to me if you 
are interested.  The play will probably be "Knight of the Burning Castle".

Needleworker's Guild(Lady Nicolette Bonhomme):  Last month I was the only 
one who showed up at Jehanneton d'Abbeville's for the meeting.  This 
month's meeting will be on Thursday, July 22 at 7 pm at Lady Melinda of the 
Weersheep's.  The topic will be leripipe hoods.  There will be no August 
meeting.

Pike Company(Lord Thome de Laurent):  Some of our equipment is being used 
in Bergental, but with our heraldry.  With any luck we will be able to lie 
about our numbers at Pennsic.

Storytellers (Lord Aleksandr Yevsha):  The next meeting is July 15 at my 
home.  The August meeting will be on August 15 at Pennsic after 7:30 pm at 
the Enchanted Ground.

Armorers Guild (Meister Frydherik Eysenkopf):  Hi.

Fools Guild (Christian von Jauregk):  We will have a meeting on July 12th 
to discuss foolishness at Pennsic and at Crown Tourney.  The meeting is at 
7:30 pm. 

Peasants (Lord Daniel of Falling Rocks):  [waves]

Fenmere, Mitgaard, and Southbanke: Hi.

Order of the Daystar (Lady Eowyn Eilonwy of Alewife Brook):  Nothing new.

Order of the Moon (Master Kobayashi Yutaka):  There is a meeting this 
Friday, July 9 at the Baron and Baroness's home at 7:30 pm.

House Chat Gris, House Skold, House Silverwing, House Windsmeet, and House 
Aelwyd: Hi.

Demo Committee (Lord Thome de Laurent):  So far the Arlington Town Day is 
the only group that has called me back.  That would be the 18th of 
September.  There is a conflict with a fighting event in Bergental.  Will 
there still be enough people willing to show up to do this.  [Several other 
people indicate other conflicts with that date.]  So it looks like we won't 
do this one.  I will let you know when I hear from the other groups I have 
contacted.


Autocrats of Events:

Islamic Dance, Arts, and Culture Event (Master Justin du Coeur):  I am not 
the autocrat, but I am running the kitchen.  I am looking for people 
interested in helping with research.  If you want to help, talk to me.  
Also, I need people to help in the kitchen at the event.

Southbanke January Event:  Schedules have changed and things are up in the 
air.

Academy of the Rapier (Bryttan):  The autocrat says the financial report is 
in, the event report will be in within 60 days of the event.
Master Kobayashi Yutaka:  Technically, event reports are due by the second 
council meeting after the event, not 60 days.  Getting the financial report 
in on time is the most important thing.

Carolingian University (Lady Elayne Courtenay):  We're still waiting.  
Activity will really take off in September.  There will be no snow this 
time.

Treasurer (Lady Rowan Kalkin): We have $3951 in uncommitted funds, $1159 is 
available.

Seneschal (Master Kobayashi Yutaka):  I have two items of business, 
Baroness Bridge wants to speak to council and a representative from the 
Shakespeare Oxford Society wants to speak to council.

Elspeth Keyfe of Neddingham, Baroness Bridge:  We have a new seneschal, 
Caitlin O Haodha [Kathy Griffin].  We will be running Crown Tournament on 
October 30 and she will be autocrating.  We'd like to have entertainers all 
day, if you are interested in performing please contact Caitlin.

Stephanie Hughes, Shakespeare's Oxford Society:  We are having a 200 person 
conference in Boston and I though some of you might be interested in 
attending.  The organization believes that the Earl of Oxford actually 
wrote the Shakespeare cannon.  We concentrate on the period of time the 
plays were written, 1560-1604.  I'm interested in having people come and do 
demos of dancing and fencing.  Usually what happens is people read papers 
and eat.  I'd be interested in having people in the correct garb interrupt 
lectures by fighting through.  Italian garb from the same period would also 
be appropriate.  So would garb from the time periods the historical plays 
are set in.  The date is November 12-14.  [Lord Anton of Winteroak 
volunteers to be the SCA contact for this.]

Order of the Perseus (Lord Danulf Donaldson):  Hi.

Lord Danulf Donaldson:  I have Central Region Fencing Marshal business, the 
new rules are now in effect.

Rapier Company (Lord Danulf Donaldson):  Hi.

Lord Danulf Donaldson:  I brought the lost and found from the Academy of 
the Rapier.  The financial report is in, the event lost some money but less 
than $100.


SCA Announcements:

Caitlin Davies:  I am thinking about running the 1995 Known World Heraldic 
Symposium.  I am looking for a hotel with function space or a hotel near a 
campus with function space.  Also, there should be a site to hold the feast 
nearby.

Justin du Coeur:  
- - I am running another play reading this month.  Talk to me if you are 
interested.  The play will probably be "Knight of the Burning Castle".
- - I am running the kitchen for the Islamic Dance event.  If you are 
interested in helping with research this month, talk to me.  Also, I need 
people to help in the kitchen at the event.

Bryttan:
- - The Bookseller Cafe is having a Shakespeare run and is doing something 
special each night except Sunday.  It is located at 1971 Massachusetts 
Avenue in Cambridge.
- - I am renting a truck for Pennsic.  You can rent space in it for $2.50 per 
cubic foot.  I am looking for a second driver.
- - I know of a ride to Pennsic available on August 13th.  Talk to me if you 
are interested.

Anton of Winteroak:  The height of the biggest meteor shower of the century 
will be August 11.  The viewing should be better in Massachusetts than in 
Western Pennsylvania.

Tibicen Blackmane:
- - The instrumentalists will be at dance practice this week.
- - We're booked through November, other autocrats who would like us to 
perform should get their requests in now.

Corwyn ap Gruffith Cynnil:  The period fencing manual discussion at Baron 
Patri's home continues.  This month's sessions are on July 15 and July 29.  
We start about 7 pm.

Franz Joder von Joderhuebel:
- - My poetry meetings are going to happen every other month.  The next one 
is July 9 and about the ladies poetry project.  If you are male and show 
up, you might have to go in the other room while the ladies drink brandy 
and smoke cigars.
- - Thursday, July 22 will be the religious bardic circle.  Material related 
to any religion is welcome.

Christian von Jauregk:  My site idea for the event I want to run fell 
through, I am looking at other sites.

Dante de Felice:  I have several announcements about the Liber.
- - I need cover art, talk to me if you are interested in doing the cover.
- - I have a copy to mark with corrections, please proofread your entry.
- - All corrections must be given to me in writing, I won't guarantee that I 
took down the information correctly if you just put in on the blackboard at 
Council.
- - The deadline will be after the September Council meeting.
- - This year we did not sell out the entire run, possibly due to disk 
copies.  If you have ideas for how to keep the cost per copy down if we 
print fewer copies, talk to me.

Tibor of Rock Valley:
- - When you look at the proof copy of the Liber, please mark entries that 
should be removed or note people who should be added.
- - I will be testing the email addresses soon.  If the mail bounces or I 
don't get a reply, the email address will be removed.

Aleksandr Yevsha:  Middle eastern dance practice dates for the rest of the 
summer are July 15, July 29 and August 26.  It is 16-310 at 7:30 pm for the 
summer.

Aurylia Brytwyn:  I am hosting a bardic circle at my home on July 18th from 
11 am on.  Garb is optional.  Bring food or drink.  My phone number is 
646-9495.

Eowyn Eilonwy of Alewife Brook:  I'm looking for my copy of Vinland i Dag.  
If you have accidently walked off with it last Council, please return it.

Steffan ap Cennydd of Silverwing:  I need bits and pieces to fight at 
Pennsic this year.  If you have spare weapons or armor bits, I'm willing to 
pay.

Tibor of Rock Valley:  Some people on the list of people without SCA names 
in the Liber actually have SCA names and most of the information hasn't 
been updated in a couple of years.  I'm giving a name to people who have 
been around for several years but don't have SCA names yet.  [Several 
people indicate that this might upset some people.]


General Announcements:
Justin du Coeur:  In honor of several birthdays around now, I brought 
cheesecake.

Godith Anyon:  Diego and I are having a house warming this Thursday at 8 
pm.

Bryttan:  I am hosting a lingerie party on July 20 at 7 pm.  No men 
allowed.

Franz Joder von Joderhuebel:  I have lost and found from the party for 
Mustapha and Malice -- a kitchen knife and a bright purple child's sipper 
cup.

Tibicen Blackmane:  Thanks to everyone who helped Alexander, Caterina, and 
I move.

Sabine:  We have a queen-size mattress that is yours if you take it away.

Caterina Sichling von Nurnberg:  I have a small washer/dryer for sale.  It 
needs a little work.

Pamelina of Avon:  We have a little William.  He was born on the 19th.

Marsha:  I am looking for a place to live, preferable with roommates in a 
large apartment or house.  A house would be preferable.  I'm not looking 
for a boarder situation.  If you have an leads, let me know.

Eowyn Eilonwy of Alewife Brook:  If anyone needs copies of the Pennsic land

Caitlin Davies:  I have this month's Curia agenda and can send copies to 
people who would like them.  The key items are making the Captain General 
of the Archers a Great Office, changing King and Queen's fencing 
championships to a winter rotation so that all the champion competitions 
aren't in the summer reign, and making some changes to the Courts of 
Chivalry.

Kobayashi Yutaka:  The next meeting will be August 2 in MIT Room 2-105.
