Unto you reformers from the East Kingdom does Lady Tibicen Blackmane
submit this plea, and she prays the indulgence of you foreign gentles:


Some of you have wondered what you personally can do to help save the
Society.  *BOY*, do I have an answer:

    Help me break the Corporation's monopoly on the mail list!

Right now the Corporate office holds, by law and fact, the only copy
of the amassed contact information for our fair Kingdom (and all other
Kingdoms besides).  Should the Board in a fit of paranoia decide that
our Crown, our Chronicler, or even the entire Kingdom was seditious,
it could shatter the East into a hundred isolated shards by simply
withholding the mailing labels from out chronicler.

Even our King cannot directly poll his people, except at the
Corporation's pleasure.

And if mundane authorities step in -- a reasonable outcome of our
impeaching all 6 directors or the SCA filing for bankruptcy -- they
might well decide to cease publication of the kingdom newletters to
assuage our budgetary woes.  Likewise, should the East secede from the
SCA, Inc., it would forfeit all rights to receive that contact
information. 

                    I find this intolerable.

The solution is simple: for a private individual to compile that
contact information from scratch, *not* as a representative or officer
of the SCA, so that ownership of that information never reverts to the
SCA, Inc.

This I shall do.  PLEASE HELP!!!

I am going to need a small (?) army of volunteers.  They need to make
a serious commitment, for there will be plenty of work to be done,
and this must be done NOW.

I am going to need people to take census in their local groups.  I am
going to need people to call every person in their local domesday
books to get those people to answer the census over the phone.  I am
going to need people to travel to events and take census there.  I am
going to need people to beat the bushes for non-paid members who are
hard to find.  I and all the above will need help typing handwritten
information into email.  I'll need people to help with announcement
texts and ad copy.  Donations for an ad in Pikestaff would be
wonderful, too.  And we could use an emacs macro hacker at this
moment.

subject line.  Please include your names, the name of your local
group, and how you want to help; including your phone number if you
are hard to reach by email would also be wonderful.  Expect to receive
an automated reply; I'm hoping to be too swamped with offers of help
to write individual replies!
