Subject: Middle Eastern Miscellany

Now that Pennsic is over, it's time to start thinking about attending other 
events.  For example, mine!  On September 11, I'll be holding a Middle 
Eastern event from 2-10 in Waltham (address and directions below).  During 
the day, classes will be taught on dancing, astronomy, and garb, and there 
will probably be classes on music (zills and drums), poetry, and eating 
customs and habits.  In the evening will be a feast and entertainment.

I still need the following:

1.  reservations! (see below for prices)
2.  a site herald (hopefully one with some Middle Eastern flair)
3.  a head gatekeeper
4.  gatekeepers
5.  a set up crew (not much to set up)
6.  a clean up crew
7.  merchants

I could also use more entertainers - if someone can throw together a quick 
and fun dramatic performance, perhaps based on the Arabian Nights, this 
would be fun - and maybe more teachers.  If there are any Arabian music 
people out there, I would very much like to hear from you!

Anyhow, here's the rest of the announcement, including all the 
nitty-gritty. I hope to hear from many of you soon, and please feel free to 
pass this event announcement along to people who might be interested in 
attending.

The site is the Unitarian Universalist Church at 50 Church Street
in Waltham, MA, which is one block north from Rt. 20, and the event
runs from 2:00 - 10:00.  The price is $10.00 for the entire event
(classes, feast, entertainment) and $5.00 for the classes only. 
Checks should be made out to "SCA Inc./Barony of Carolingia", and
should include mundane name, SCA name, and telephone number. 
Please try to register in advance, as I may lower the number of on-
board spaces if I don't get enough advance response.  Children's
prices should be haggled with the autocrat.  People with dietary
restrictions should contact the autocrat in advance.  As Muslim
holy law forbids the consumption of alcohol, the site is DRY.  The
site is wheelchair accessible, but not all the classrooms are, nor
are the bathrooms.  Any gentles with restricted mobility should let
me know in advance so I can make special arrangements for them.

Directions:   
From the North and South: Take Route 128 (95) to the Route 20 exit
(exit 26) in Waltham.  Follow signs for 20 East.  1.8 miles after
you get off the highway, you will reach the center of Waltham. 
You'll know you're there because there will be a town green to your
right.  At the far end of the green, take a left onto Church St. 
(If you pass a Kentucky Fried Chicken on Rt. 20 to your left,
you've gone too far).  The site is the white, steepled church one
block up Church St.  

From the West:  Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route 90) to the
exit for Route 128/95 (exit 14).  Go north on 128/95 to exit 26. 
Continue from "from the North and South".  

From the East:  Take Route 20 West into Waltham.  After crossing
the railroad bridge (at the large white sign which very obviously
once read "Stop & Shop"), Church St. will be the 4th light (0.5
miles from the bridge).  If you pass the town green, you've gone
too far.  Turn right onto Church St.  The site is the white,
steepled church one block away.  

From public transportation:  The 70 and 70A busses from Cambridge
and the Fitchburg/Gardner Commuter Rail from North Station in
Boston both stop in Central Square Waltham two blocks from the
site.  From the bus/train stop, cross the town green, then go right
to Church St.  Go down it one block (away from the bus/train stop). 
The site will be dead ahead.  For detailed route and schedule
information, call the MBTA at 1-800-392-6100.
