Greetings to all from Alexander of Kiev, Co-Captain of the
Carolingian Pike Company---

The Pike Company is Carolingia's fighting unit, training in 
group tactics and working as a team.  It is also a support 
structure for new fighters, to help them get into armor and 
out onto the field.  If you have ever even thought about 
taking up SCA fighting, or are otherwise interested in 
supporting fighting in Carolingia, this is for you!


                    Announcement and Directions

               Pike Company Brunch & Armor Workshop

                       Saturday, November 6

Any and all who are interested in fighting in Carolingia---
especially beginners interested in joining the Pike Company
and experienced fighters interested in helping out---are invited
to a brunch and armoring session at Alexander of Kiev's house.
The house will open at 9 am, with brunch getting going around 10.

The basics---ham, sausage, toast, jam, and of course coffee---
will be provided; if you want to bring something else, feel free.
As regards the armoring, Tamao Warkine from Bridge will be there
to show how he makes armor quickly and cheaply from empty plastic
barrels; we hope that other armorers with other approaches will be
there as well (hint, hint).  We will also discuss and decide what
the Pike Company will be doing over the winter.

Directions:

By T:

Find your best route to Harvard Square Station (Red Line).  Find the
bus platforms, and catch the 77 bus, north to Arlington.  It leaves
every 15 min, from the farthest right-hand berth on the upper bus
platform, and follows the directions for cars from the South, below.
There is a stop at Palmer Street, and there are stops approximately
every block, so if you overshoot, you can walk back without much
trouble.  Look for the Gnomon Copy shop at the corner of Palmer
and Mass. Ave.  In the back of its parking lot is a vine and brush
covered fence.  10 Palmer is the second house down the driveway
behind that fence.

By car:

From the North, take your best route to Massachusetts Ave, in
Arlington or Lexington, and follow Mass. Ave. south; pass through
Arlington Center, and in a couple of blocks (i.e., at Franklin St.,
the second traffic light after the intersection of Mass. Ave and
Rt. 60) you will see a fire station on your left.  Turn left at
the fire station, then immediately turn right again onto Broadway.
Palmer is the first street on your right.  Find a place to park on
Palmer and walk up to the second to last driveway on the right
(the one bordered by a vine-covered wooden fence); 10 Palmer is
the second house down that driveway.

From the South, take your best route to Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge
or Arlington, and follow Mass. Ave. north into Arlington; you will
pass the Capitol movie theater on your left, and then eventually a
Walgreens, also on your left.   At this point start looking for
Palmer St. on your right.  *Note that Palmer is a one way the wrong way.*
At the corner of Palmer and Mass. Ave is a parking lot in front of a
Gnomon Copy and a few other stores).  Take your next right, at the
fire station (Franklin St.), then immediately turn right again onto
Broadway.  Palmer is the first street on your right.  Find a place
