Long Form:
 
Greetings all from Tibicen!
 
One week from today (Sat) will be the 27th anniversary of that fateful
tourney, in the back yard of she who was later to be known as Diana
Listmaker, which spawned this vast and glorious entity known as the SCA
(arguably making us part of the longest running costume party in history).
 
In honor of this, and in honor of May, the Borough of Fenmere is holding, in
keeping with Carolingian tradition, a simple tourney on their lawn on
Sunday, May 2nd. 
 
I will be leading an expedition to the event from the Lounge
of Black Couches (2nd Floor, Student Center).  The time the expedition will
meet has not yet been set; expect them to be around 11am - but wait for
confirmation.  The event opens at 10am, but we will obviously not be there
then, unless there is an amazing hue and cry to leave earlier.
 
Unlike previous years, we will be going by MBTA bus (which will no doubt add
that extra bite of adventure), instead of Commuter Rail.
 
Hence:
 
The fare is $0.60 each way.  Several people planning on going
to this event will have T passes.  Because it is a Sunday, each passholder
can take one guest *free*.  IF YOU HAVE A PASS, PLEASE TELL ME.  Likewise,
if going to this event is a financial hardship, I will happily pair you with
someone who can take you for free, if you tell me.
 
The bus ride is a long one, and is likely to be *extremely* crowded.  Please
plan on traveling lightly, and bring your patience.  One bene of this plan
is that the bus leaves us at a higher altitude than the train and on the
same side of campus as the event, so we have to climb up less of that bloody
hill (nevertheless, plan on a bit of a hike at either end!)
 
This plan will also have us going right by the home of Nesta Ferch Meriadoc
Hartly and Boris Petrovitch, who are hosting one of the two post revels.
They are hoping this post revel will be somewhat music oriented, a bit like
their bang-up Jongleurs and Bards party last Dec., but all are invited.  I'm
planning on attending, and will leading an expedition there from the event;
the bus stop is within 100 yards of their house and runs untill 11:45 at
night.  Also, they have agreed to let those of us planning on attending
their post to drop off pot-luck food contributions on the way *to* the
event, so it can be refridgerated.
 
The other post revel will be at the home of Suibhan nic Crumein, Radegund
von Feuchtenstadt, and Brother Andrew; it might be possible to catch a ride
to there from the event, but you're on your own.
 
FOOD:
 
Jenny of Mitgaard (kerowyn@athena) will be organizing the meal plan for food
during the day, as there is no feast.  Please email her immediately if you
want to be fed.  Please also let her know if you can help cook on Saturday. 
The borough may or may not be able to cover the expenses, so please bring a
buck to contribute to the food fund if it turns out to be necessay. 
 
Because the event ends before dinner time, both the post revels will have
pot-luck dinners.  Please bring something to contribute if you planning on
going to one; as I mentioned earlier, contributions to Nesta's and Boris'
which shouldn't sit out in the sun all day can be dropped off there on the
way to the event.  
 
**SO WHAT IS A POST-REVEL?***
 
Simply, a post-revel is a party in a private home open to all attendees of a
given event.  It was explained to me once that they can be considered a
"depressurization zone", where you can switch from "Scadian existance" to
"Mundane existance" less abruptly.  Some people stay in garb, and some
change into their Mundies (either at the party or before they get there). 
People talk about SCA stuff, and talk about computers, Monty Python, D&D
games, the stock market, etc...  Usually there is some food, and often drink
- not necessarily or usually period.  Sometimes people sing filk (separate
lecture) or watch movies.  They're great times to get to know people in the
SCA - especially people who are usually too busy to talk at events - and get
to know about them in the outside-world sense as well.  Post-revels are
great fun, and
I hope you can make it to one of them!
