Hi!  Sorry about that last message.  I made a mistake with my mailer. 

But, as long as I've got your attention:

There will be a Vintage Tea Dance in Porter Square, at the Masonic
Hall (1950 Mass Ave) April 10th, at 2:00, running till 5:00.  Music
will be by the band Spare Parts; Patri will be teaching from 2:00 -
3:00, after which the band will play for an hour, then a break for
refreshments and another brief lesson, then another hour of music.
Cost is $8.00 for the general public, $4.00 to Carolingians who show
up at 2:00 and say "Hi.  I'm in the SCA," to the doorkeeper.  If you
just want to come for the workshop, that's $3.00.

The focus of the dance is "the gay 90's" -- 1890's that is -- and we
will also be celebrating the wedding anniversary of a couple of the
regular dancers, but you don't have to know them to come.  

Typical dances of the 90's that will be played are: waltz, polka,
5-step waltz (in 5/4 rather than 3/4 time), Hungroise ("Hungarian
Waltz" -- nothing like the waltz, and only somewhat like the Polka),
Schottische, Lancers Quadrille, a couple of simple contra dances
(quite similar to Playford dances), Polka Redowa, Mazurka.  We are
also likely to have some later dances, such as the Ragtime Tango, One
Step, Maxixe, Grizzly Bear, and Castle Walk mixed in.

Patri will be teaching waltz variations peculiar to the 90's, such as
the Harvard Dip, Schottische variations -- which are fun and dirt
easy, possibly some 5-step variations (which are hard, but have some
surface similarities to Galliard steps that may make them more
accessible to SCAdians that they are to the run of the mill ballroom
dancer), and perhaps some Polka.
