Subject: Dance Music Wanted!

From: Michael Bergman <augment@world.std.com>

Good gentles, I bid you greetings.

I have for some years nourished a desire to collect a large amount of
good dance music together onto a CD, to take advantage of the ability
to set a particular cut to repeat, fast song searching, high-quality
sound, and the ability to replace a small suitcase full of tapes with
a single disk...

Things at work have taken an odd turn, such that I will have a lot of
access to a CD mastering system for a week or two, and occasional
access thereafter, as long as I succeed in not pissing off the owner.

So. If any of you have particularly good versions of suitable dance
tunes, especially but not limited to versions on CD, I would like to
borrow them. To begin with, it would be useful if you could note down
and send to me what discs (or tapes) you have that have appropriate
material, who the performers are, and which tracks are danceable.
Approximate lengths of the dance tracks would also be useful, but are
less critical. Contact info for the artists will be needed
eventually, but but need not be included in the first pass.

I will want to build the database of information for a while before I
actually start the project -- almost certainly missing my window of
easy access, but still falling well within the window of occasional
access. Still, if those of you who have suitable material bring it to
council, I can look over the liner notes and write everything down,
and maybe borrow some for a trial run.

I will be maintaining careful records as to whom I borrow things from,
and am willing to put up a deposit to reassure people that if they
don't get their stuff back, they can replace it...

No copyrights will be violated! This is an above-board project.
