Subject: sewing machine desire

Hi there. I'm looking to purchase a sewing machine, mostly to be used
for making garb. And I'd like some advice, if anyone has any.

What sort of brand-names do you reccommend? What sort of machines
have you owned, and what did you think of them?

Since I'm making garb, I'll probably be sewing wool and silk, each of
which poses special problems, I realize. Are there differences between
various types of machines which would make some better for such pruposes
than others?

Is there anything else I might want to know on this topic, which you
think I might be forgetting.

Some things to remember when replying.
1) I'm on a student budget. I can spend a fair amount on a machine, but
not $1000 or anything silly like that.
2) I'm in Illinois, so don't offer me your old one, or reccommend places
   in Mass. to buy one.
3) I'm not actually on the Carolingia list, so I won't get your reply unless
you send it directly to me.

Thanks much
Cinaed
