Subject: The job of Provost

The Provost is in charge of running the weekly meetings and organizing things
within the borough. The majority of the work is in the first couple months of
the fall term, when you have to run the table at the Activities Midway, then
figure out how to convince the freshmen to join Mitgaard. Last year I ran the
ice cream social, organized the trip to Crown, and wrote lots of email to the
freshmen telling them about the SCA.

Throughout the term, you have to help people get to events and find out more
about the subjects they are interested in. You also organize other activities
for people to do. Much of the job of Provost is combatting the apathy brought
on by too much tooling.

The other main thing you have to do is go to Carolingian Council every month (or
at least send someone there to represent you) Council is the first Monday of
every month from 7 until about 9. it is the business meeting for the Barony,
and you learn about all the meetings that are happening in the Barony for the
next month. This is a big help in helping people find out more about their
areas of interest. At Council you have to report on what is going on in
Mitgaard. Often all you have to do is say "hi" if nothing much is going on.
Other times, you'll have to announce things happening here that you think the
rest of hte Barony would be interested in. We usually invite the Barony to help
out at the Midway, for instance.

The job of Provost does not REQUIRE much work, but the more work you put into
it, the better. I am not planning to run again - I'd like to let someone else
run Mitgaard for a while, though I will help whoever replaces me as much as I
can.
