Oh, I get that. I just don't think it provides much data. I'd be
*astounded* if it didn't produce enough money to conduct the polling.
(I'll admit that I could be wrong here, but I don't believe I am.)
Bear in mind that several people at the meeting tossed in five dollars
right there and then; it doesn't take all that many of those to make
up $300...

Basically, it's providing a binary answer that I think is almost bound
to be "yes". I suppose that has some merit if Randal and Katherine were
actually skeptical about whether it was worth continuing; I just never
felt that there was much question about that.

(I suppose this may be my cynical side showing through -- I just sort
of subconciously figured that R&K were asking whether to continue so
that the people there could be the ones to say "yes", which is sensible
politically. I hadn't seriously considered the notion that they might
have *serious* doubts about whether to go forward...)

Well, we'll see -- the suggestion seems to have been basically taken
up, and if they *don't* manage to raise the money, then that will be
a rather telling message. I'd be surprised if they didn't raise $150
at Birka, though...
