I'd say that the reality is somewhere in between. The ties, I gather,
used to be stronger than they are now. Still, there is a fair amount
of personal friendship between the groups; Jane and I probably have
more friends in BMDL than in some of our immediate neighboring
groups. I'd say that calling this a "close relationship" is something
of an exaggeration, though -- the two groups *think* alike in some
respects, and have a number of personal ties, but that's it...
