Gee, why am I not surprised. Why don't we make killing someone with a
crossbow illegal! WHAT? You say killing someone with a crossbow is ALREADY
illegal? Then, obviously, this whole incident could not have happened and
is made up out of whole cloth by the media.

But seriously folks, the possession of a crossbow is already governed by the
same laws that apply to rifles and shotguns. (Actually, it is a bit of a
gray area, but you better have the licence.) Without being in possession of
any more facts than the media/police will give, I can only say that:

1-If the crossbow was loaded and cocked (as seems likely) this is a violation
of existing law, indicating intent to use same.

2-If the perpetrator intentionally discharged the weapon, this is a violation
of existing law, inviting prosecution. (Gee, you say he IS under arrest?)

3-If the weapon discharged accidently (as his defense attorney argues) Then
with the safeguards on a modern crossbow, particularly the safety inherent in
all our brains (DON'Y LEAVE IT LOADED/COCKED, STUPID!) then this is at the
very least criminal negligence far exceeding the ordinary duty of care of a
reasonable person.

4-If this was accidental, then I'm William Tell!

WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER LAW!!!!!!!!!
