Hi, Crystal. What are you looking for? Solo songs? Solo instrumental
stuff? Group vocal? Group instrumental? Vocal with accompaniment?

Can you read music or can you learn only from recordings or live
performers?

If you can read music and have web access, I'd highly recommend looking at
the facsimile pages available through Gregory's pages:
http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/music_and_dance.html
He has a link to the Early Music FAQ pages, where you will find a large
compendium of available recordings. If you want to go there directly, it's
http://www.medieval.org/emfaq/

Whether or not you have Internet access, have you tried:
your public library?
your local academic library?
your local used bookstore near a college or university?

On the matter of the last one, look for anthologies used in music history
classes. Even old ones may be useful. Some of the ones to look for
include:
The Norton Anthology of Medieval Music
The Historical Anthology of Music by Women
The Harvard Anthology of Music
The Historical Anthology of Music

also look for Oxford University Press titles. They have a homepage at:
http://www.oup.co.uk/
with a music section at
http://www1.oup.co.uk/music/

Try a search on "Oxford Book of" to get an impressive array of everything
from French Chansons to Tudor Anthems.

Don't overlook everyday sources like hymnals and books of carols.
Go browse in the classical section of your local record store. Look for
composers like Binchois, Perotin, Hildegard, Morley, di Lasso . . .
performers such as Anonymous 4, Sequentia, Hillard Ensemble, Deller Consort
. . .
genres such as English madrigals, motets, chant . . .
specific sources such as music from the Llibre Vermell, Cantigas de Santa
Maria, lute music from the Skene manuscript . . .

Now look in the areas of the store/library/web close to where you found any
of the above.

What are looking for?

Vivien
