We all are that person, on the right topic at the right time.  Unless you
are claiming sainthood :-)

That is why the image is so ubiquitous and so powerful; because it bears
the familiar stench of our own failings, easily recognizable as a marker of
our species.  

It is our ideals which give us the motivation and the responsibility to
counter that (and other) tendencies.  But countered they must be, denial is
a singularly useless response.  The best any of us can do is learn to bite
our tongues before the bad things are spoken, or atone for them after.
