Subject: Viking ships sink.

Some of you may remember seeing an annoucement of the visit of some
viking ships to several cities along the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
last fall.  Unfortunately, it seems that two of them have sunk after
crossing back to Europe:

VIKING SHIPS SINK OFF SPAIN

All 11 crew members were recued from life rafts when the two Norwegian
Viking Ships ``Saga Siglar'' and ``Oseberg'' sank in the Mediterranean
eight nautical miles off the Spanish coast earlier in May.  

The two ships, which participated in last year's Vinlan Revisited
voyage across the Atlantic, were sailing to the World Exhibition in
Seville, Spain, where they were crushed by waves in a sudden storm and
sank.  The crew were rescued by Norwegian and Spanish vessels after
spending 11 hours clinging on to the life rafts.

Meanwhile, ``Gaia'', the third Viking ship from last year's Atlantic
crossing, has safely reached Brazil en route to the U.S. Earth Summit
in Rio in June.
