Corrigan

Perceptions

1. When you meet a person for the first time, what sort of things do you notice/not notice about them? (Rank them in order of importance.)

I think that Corrigan notices the underlying feelings/character of people. Things like fear, nervousness, strength, speed, cunning, friendliness, hatred. The first thing Corrigan notices about someone is their vitality. Do they excel in some way? Do they want something very, very much, or are they just bumming around. Corrigan tends to ignore those who are just bumming around.

Corrigan doesn't comprehend complex or subtle emotional tangles. He may sense a flurry of conflicting emotions as they cross someone's face, but he won't understand. For example, if someone really loved Strata, but their brother had been killed by Stratan police, so they hated the police, Corrigan would just sense love, determination, hatred, and not understand any further.

(David's logic is that Corrigan has a high psyche and some goodstuff, which reflects his innate capability at sensing feelings and communicating with people, but he's naive and unknowledgeable, and doesn't really care about emotional complexities. He'll probably learn at some point that he'll have to understand them sometimes in order to work with other people more effectively.)

2. What about when you come to a place for the first time?

Corrigan looks for sources of power, potential enemies, allies, and neutrals. He'll also try to look for traps or ambushes, though he may be less proficient at this. I guess there's nothing that he sees and thinks is relevant that he'd ignore, so the question is what won't he see or what would he think is irrelevant? He won't see some really twisted plot, someone trying to befriend him to get him to do something else (though he might sense the emotional under-currents).

He would see people arguing or children squabbling but he'd generally ignore them, unless it seemed relevant to the current mission. The people might actually be arguing about something really relevant, but if it didn't look like it on the surface, Corrigan would ignore it. I guess Corrigan isn't likely to hit upon random plots. On the other hand if some people were pretending to argue, Corrigan might notice immediately that they weren't really mad at each other.
