A native of Mannheim, Germany, Dagmar Jaeger came to the US to do her graduate work in language pedagogy and literature after completing her studies in Heidelberg, Germany. Before coming to MIT, she taught at several colleges and universities, including UMass Amherst and Amherst College. She got her Ph.D. in German Literature from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In her book Theater im Medienzeitalter (2007), she focuses on the contemporary theater by Elfriede Jelinek and Heiner Müller in the context of media culture, drawing on the works of Walter Benjamin and Jean Baudrillard. She is director of Gedenken und Gedächtnis, a digital media repository for the study of contemporary German literature and culture featuring interviews with authors of memory literature. Dagmar has given talks at conferences in the US and Europe on teaching and technology, contemporary theater and literature and also participated in literature seminars conducted by writers in Berlin. She is the recipient of the SHASS Academic Infinite Mile Award for continued outstanding service and innovative teaching at MIT in 2007. Research grants include the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation, Boston, in 2002 and the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning, Yale University, in 2003 and 2004.
Dagmar Jaeger is the Coordinator for the German Studies program at MIT. She teaches German literature and language, poetry, and creative writing.
