Syllabus

Studies how visual images shape the identity of peoples, cultures, and events in Japan. Uses prototype digital projects as case studies to introduce the conceptual and practical issues involved in "visualizing cultures." Projects look at American and Japanese graphics depicting contacts between Japan and the West in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Taught in English. Enrollment limited. Credit cannot also be received for 21F.590.
