Middle of the Room

You are in the middle of a spaceous room, its high vaulted ceiling lit by plain-looking fluorescent lights. To the far north of the chamber is a strange translucent door, through which you can see glints of colored light. To the east of the room is a strange, tubelike structure, sort of an overgrown piece of macaroni. To the south of the room, attached to the wall, is a colorful panel with little glowing buttons on it. To the west is an ugly neon sign that says "Ha Ha Ha Ha."

Here, in the floor, lies a round, brass plaque. A closer inspection reveals the words:

"Welcome, Intruder, to the beta testing section of True Cyberspace. Soon, this `code' will be `distributed' to all parts of the cyberspace Internet. Enjoy while you can!"

It's dated quite recently...

Oh, no! Ever wonder why rats don't like running across rooms, and keep to the sides? They're open to attacks from all sides. And if they're slow, like you are, they're pretty toast. Like you are...

"Meow," says the cat, happily.

"Thank you for play testing the beta version of our cybertransformation system!" says the voice in your ears.

The next moment, there is nothing but empty peace, empty calm. With no end.
