The short-term
goals
educational
-
Meet prospective
students from leading Portuguese universities and establish
relationships that allow us to mentor them throughout the process of
coming to MIT. This goal will be initiated through a multi-day
information session which will take place in Portugal in March 2006.
-
Host welcome sessions at MIT for the very
best students who are in the process of applying to MIT. These students
would benefit from the financial support gathered until then and would
have their trip financed in part or in whole.
-
Facilitate the financial sponsorship in
part or in whole for Portuguese students who have been accepted at MIT
for their Masters or PhD programs.
-
Gather support from existing students at
MIT and learn about their potential availability towards the group. The
purpose is to create our very own “in-house” expertise on how to apply
to the various fields within MIT (i.e. Civil Engineering, Computer
Science, Electronic Engineering, Management, Supply Chain Management,
Biomedicine, etc).
-
Promote the MIT PLT Club website, which it
will comprise the communication and information backbone for the group.
R&D And Industry
-
Meet Portuguese
industrial companies to raise awareness and assure funding for our
group. Gather vital information on the R&D areas which these companies
are willing to invest, therefore allowing us to find compatible
interests and collaboration opportunities between student research and
industry.
-
Hold workshops for Portuguese industrial
companies where existing MIT students can present their existing
research projects and also find out about Portuguese industry
opportunities.
-
Hold career fairs at MIT, possibly working
together with the MIT European Career Fair, whereby representatives of
prominent Portuguese companies initiate recruiting processes with MIT
students.
-
Create the facebook of Portuguese students
at MIT and distribute it within Portuguese companies as well as US
companies and in particular where Portuguese MIT alumni are
incorporated.
