Provisions

The following is a list of recommended items to bring/not bring on the trip.  This list is not exhaustive and should be used along with your common sense.

WHAT TO BRING:

1. Sunscreen, insect repellant, polarized sunglasses, wide-brim hat and sailing gloves (available at Can Am Sail craft and Windsurf, 48 Charles Street, Cambridge),

2. Bathing suit, camera and films, shorts, T-shirts, and non-marking or white sole sneakers, sandals or boat shoes.

3. Heavy duty or weather-resistant flashlight. Use only new batteries.

4. Motion sickness pills (Bonine, Dramamine, etc.), patches (Transderm Scop available by prescription) or wristbands (Davis Queaz-Away available at CVS); ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol); and standard Band-Aids (for cuts and blisters).

5. Cash, at least $300 in U.S. currency (the U.S. dollar is the local currently in the BVI). Should you run out of cash, there are ATM machines in the U.S. and British Virgins.

6. For entry/return to the United States: passport and/or proof of U.S. citizenship or residency. Additionally foreign passport holders should bring their I-20 or IAP-66. Be sure to check that your F or J visa stamp has not expired and that your I-20/IAP form is revalidated by the International Students’ Office. Please note that the Visa Waiver Program does not apply to private boats or aircraft entering the United States, so all foreign passport holders must have a valid visa stamp in their passport.

For entry to BVI: valid passport or, for U.S. citizens, proof of U.S. citizenship. There are no visa requirements for visitors to the BVI.

Optional items:

7. Liquid laundry detergent in small containers, clothespins (if you’ve never bought them before you can find them at Stop and Shop; a dozen clothespins for each boat is sufficient), safety pins (when clothespins will not do the job) and wire hangers.

8. Liquid biodegradable soap (such as SunShower or Pure Castille soap available at REI or EMS) that works well in salt and fresh water.

9. CD’s (boats have radios and CD players), cameras, plenty of films (they are expensive in the British Virgins), plastic zipper bags. For light sleepers, ear plugs and eye masks.

10. Beach towel (Footloose will provide regular towels).

11. 2 long sleeve T-shirts (incase of sunburn)

12. Pair of lightweight sweats (same reason)

13. Zinc Oxide for their nose (same reason)

14. Aloe-vera gel (same reason)

15. Croakies for sunglasses (so they don't loose them)

16. Alligator clip for hats (same reason)

Your gear should fit into a soft, water-resistant sea or duffel bag that can be folded up when not in use. Do not use hard suitcases, as they do not stow easily on a boat.

DO NOT TO BRING:

1. Scuba gear unless you have your own regulator, face mask, etc. but weight belts and tanks can be rented from many outlets and dive shops throughout the island. Footloose will also provide snorkel and fins for everyone.

2. Expensive camera (it will get wet).

3. Hard suit cases (there’s no room to stow them).

4. Bed sheets, pillows, pillow cases, towels (Footloose will provide them).
