Important or Well-known Personalities
The Living
The King. He had a long
and much talked about career as a rogue and a womanizer until his father
put a stop to all that by first getting himself crowned King and then
dying shortly thereafter, to Edward's great displeasure. Edward is
currently unmarried and has no known children.
Cousin to Edward; mother to Merlin. One
of the more, ah, notable personalities in chaos, she was allegedly
involved in some sort of covert operation against Amber, during which
she bore her first son, Merlin, to the Amberite prince Corwin. She
later became entangled with the old king of Amber, Oberon, and is
regarded by some as a traitor to Chaos for her actions during the
Patternfall war. She returned to Chaos after the war to marry the Duke
of Sawall, to whom she bore two more sons, Despil and Jurt. To the
surprise of many (himself included), Merlin was adopted by the Duke and
upon his death became Duke of Sawall. Dara disappeared from public view
shortly after Merlin's investiture and was not seen again until her
recent, brief appearance at Laurent's investiture.
High Priest of the Church of
the Serpent. He is a stiff and formal man who places a high value on
tradition and rank. He has little tolerance for the liberal houses (and
sometimes even the moderate ones), or for anyone he deems below his
standards.
The Crown Prince;
Edward's first cousin. A man without any obvious
weaknesses and a somewhat irritable temperment. He has made it very
clear on numerous occasions that he finds politics tiresome and annoying
and is prepared to make everyone's life miserable should he be forced to
ascend to the throne of Chaos. He is married to Keelin Hendrake and has
three children: Hannah (f,15), Emyrl (f,12) and Dorian (m,9).
Cousin to the Duke of
Hendrake. He is most noted for killing Rebecca
Minobee in a duel at the behest of his cousin Kamil. It is advised that one not bring the subject
up in his presence.
The Heir to House Ardas; son
of Laurent; younger brother to Tomas. Very little is known of him; his existence was
not even well known before Laurent's recent investiture.
Younger sister and, for
the moment, heir to the Duke of Hendrake, Kamil is said to wield a
considerable amount of influence in the house. Conservative and
aristocratic (or arrogant and condescending), Kamil is reputedly not one
it would be wise to cross.
Youngest child of Rebecca Minobee and an unknown party, commonly
believed to be Daniel Kyros, husband of Kamil
Hendrake. Her birth and the events surrounding are generally
credited with being the reason behind the current strained relations
between Minobee and Hendrake. Kamil is probably about ten years old now.
Duke of Ardas.
Duke of Sawall.
Duchess of Chanciutt. A
long time friend of the deceased Tore Ardas, she is
also the apparent winner in Chanicutt's recent and rather long internal
succession squabble, though she lost her husband Alaster during it. She
is a savy woman with four children: Wystan, Iskendar, Hunagor, and
Deregon. Wystan is married to Alowi Hlurle; Iskendar is marreid to
Elisabeth Ardas.
The Keeper of the Logrus and
a cousin to the king.
Lord General of Chaos;
younger brother of the deceased Borel, the previous Duke of Hendrake.
He is reputedly without equal with a sword.
The eldest son of Laurent Ardas. A bizarre Logrus accident left both
him and the Keeper of the Logrus badly injured.
Duke of Hendrake.
Son of the late Borel Hendrake, he is apparently not his father's equal
with the sword.
The Duke of Minobee and
Lord Chancellor of the Realm. He is a proud, hard man, a shrewd
politician -- he is one of the very few people to retain power through
the reigns of Swayvil, Jasby, and Helgram -- and an excellent swordsman.
The Dead
Previous Keeper of the
Logrus. He was reputedly loyal to his house, but even more interested
in Logrus, sorcery and other arcane matters. He was among those less
than pleased with the Royal Edict against meddling in certain arcane
matters. He was killed during the final assualt on Chaos by the forces
of Amber.
Only daughter of Tybalt Minobee. An unparalleled
beauty, she was also a wild and
rebellious woman who took great pleasure in defying and embarassing
her father, which she primarily accomplished by sleeping around. She
bore no fewer than three illegitimate children and to Tybalt's immense
irritation, refused to name the father (fathers?) of any of them. She
was killed in a duel by Harrison Hendrake to
defend the honor of his cousin Kamil with whose
husband Rebecca was allegedly having an affair. Witnesses claim that it
was quite spectacular to watch, as both combatants were exceptionally
good. She is survived by a grown daughter, Sidana, and a ten year old,
also named Kamil; her eldest child, a boy named
Berris, died attempting the Logrus late in the Patternfall war.
Deceased Duke of
Chanicutt. He became entangled in a territorial dispute with a group of
minor Chaos denizens which resulted in a blood curse being leveled
against the house. His sudden death shortly thereafter plunged
Chanicutt into a long series of succession squabbles, which seem to have
abated, for the moment.
Wife of King Vere;
younger sister to Uriel. Beautiful but emotionally fragile, she was the
darling of her brother, Uriel. She was married to
the dashing but decadent Vere in a marriage that
quickly soured. She was rumored to have become intensely unhappy in her
marriage and eventually committed suicide by throwing herself from the
top of Thelbane.
The first Helgram King
and father of the current King, Edward, he was
assassinated by unknown parties less than a year after the end of the
Patternfall War ended.
The late Duchess of Ardas; elder
sister to Laurent. She was a close friend of Rana
Chanicutt from their childhood until her recent assassination.
A tempermental and, some say,
insane man who single-handedly turned Chaos upside down for over a dozen
years. Following the death of his sister he staged
a coup and went on to eradicate the entire house of the man he blamed for her death. He set himself up as
Emperor of Chaos with the help and support of Houses Minobee, Nyboorg,
and Bariman. Once in power, he became more and more tyrannical,
vigorously hunting out all he could find associated with the old royal
house and pursuing old vendettas against Houses Ardas and Chanicutt,
until his furor was diverted by his good friend Jakov
Harnack towards Chaos's old enemy, Amber. At Jakov's urging, Uriel
launched Chaos into a disasterous war against Amber, until he was
brought down by a coalition of great houses. Many conflicting rumors
abound as to who spearheaded this coalition, but the undisputed fact remains
that Uriel was arrested and imprisoned, where he is said to have
committed suicide.
The last Swayvil King. he was
handsome and charming, but also reportedly quite decadent and a bit of a
womanizer, a behaviour which some claim continued well after his
marriage to Sive Jasby. He was killed by Uriel Jasby at Sive's funeral, marking the start of
Chaos's time of troubles.
