What does karat mean?
The karat tells you how much gold is in the ring. Because pure gold is too soft,
all jewelery is made of an alloy of gold and other metals. For each of the karat
values the amount of gold and alloys are as follows:
Karat | fraction | % pure gold |
10K | 10/24 | 41.7% |
14K | 14/24 | 58.5% |
18K | 18/24 | 75.0% |
24K | 24/24 | 99.99% |
The alloys for the gold color are composed of the following metals:
Color | Alloy Metals |
Yellow Gold | Gold, Copper, Silver |
White Gold | Gold, Nickel, Zinc, Copper |

What is "Celestrium"?
Celestrium is a special jeweler's Stainless Steel which can be
molded to show the details of the GradRat. While not a precious
metal, its finish resembles white gold and, because it is steel,
is very long lasting.
Students sometimes buy two rings: a Celestrium ring for daily use
and a gold ring for special ocassions.
