The club vision
The PLT Club
is a student group created at MIT in 2005 as a response to the lack of
initiatives that address the following problems:
-
The almost inexistent relationship between
Portuguese industries and world-class American universities, such as
MIT.
-
The lack of information and motivation about the
process of studying, working in the US.
-
The scarce funding of PhD students and non existing
funding of Masters students.
Our vision is to sow the PLT Club seeds in MIT’s
fertile soil and give rise to a legacy committed to:
-
Raising the level of awareness of Portuguese
students as to what is the US opportunity.
-
Demystifying the application process through a
platform that allows for the exchange of experiences of both existing
and alumni MIT students who will mentor prospective candidates.
-
Nurturing and maintaining a healthy relationship
with the Portuguese industry and government so as to increase the level
of funding for both Masters and PhD students.
-
Enabling a pipeline between Portugal’s and US
industry to find joint research opportunities (i.e. internship) and post
graduation work placement.
