Tekki Nidan is the seventh kata in Shotokan Karate, and is taught during our special course "Shotokan through Green Belt" three times a year in parallel with "Shotokan through Yellow Belt". It is the final kata required for the rank of Blue Belt.
Tekki Sandan
Tekki Sandan is the eighth kata in Shotokan Karate, and is taught during our special course "Shotokan through Green Belt" three times a year in parallel with "Shotokan through Yellow Belt". It is the first kata required for the rank of Green Belt.
Bo Kata Videos
The following videos show the first two Bo kata for Shotokan Karate, performed by MIT Instructor Brian Neltner in 2009.
Shonokon
Sho-no-kon-bo is the first Bo kata, required for the rank of Shodan. Bo kata are largely designed to improve familiarity and comfort with the weapon, and is modified from Bo-focused martial arts in order to mimic standard Shotokan Karate techniques. In this way, they are more natural for Shotokan Karate-ka.
Shushinokon
Shu-shi-no-kon-bo is the second Bo kata, required for the rank of Nidan. Bo kata are largely designed to improve familiarity and comfort with the weapon, and is modified from Bo-focused martial arts in order to mimic standard Shotokan Karate techniques. In this way, they are more natural for Shotokan Karate-ka. Shushinokon is designed for more varied bunkai applications than Shonokon.
