About AIRMUN

What is MUN?

The Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations system. Students assume the roles of ambassadors to the United Nations and debate the current issues on the UN's agenda. Through diplomacy and negotiation, Model UN students seek ways that the world community can deal with complex global concerns such as the environment, economic development, refugees, AIDS, conflict resolution, disarmament and human rights. Young people of all backgrounds and walks of life participate in these educational exercises to experience first-hand decision-making processes and diplomatic work at the United Nations.

What is AIRMUN?

MIT Model United Nations is a unique organization on campus. Not only do we research, discuss, and debate global issues, we try to solve them as well. Our vision is an MIT community in which students are aware of international issues and become inspired to improve the world. Every member of Model UN is passionate about current international affairs and wants to learn about other nations, societies, and cultures. Through research, conferences, lectures, panels, and discussions, Model UN members develop intellectually and discover the impact they can make in society.

Our current goals are to:
(1) foster interests in international affairs across campus,
(2) invite knowledgeable speakers who can provide valuable perspectives,
(3) collaborate with other organizations to increase awareness of global events, and
(4) provide a forum for discussion and debate on important international issues.

To achieve these goals, our organization holds three main types of events: Model United Nations conferences that our traveling team attends, events on campus, and MITMUNC, a high school Model United Nations conference that we run. Please visit the pages for these three programs to learn more.

AIRMUN has agreed to the Massachusetts State Anti-Hazing Policy. Please refer to it here.

How do I join?

Just come to one of our meetings! Our next General Body Meeting will be sometime in September, so keep posted for updates. No prior Model UN experience is necessary. The only requirements are enthusiasm, energy, an open mind, and an eagerness to know more about the world.
Please email us at airmun-exec@mit.edu if you'd like to be added to our mailing list.
