Configuring the Automation Properties of a Virtual Machine

You can use the Configuration Editor to set automation properties for your virtual machine.

To do so:

  1. Connect to a virtual machine with a console. Make sure the virtual machine is powered off.
  2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the console.
  3. Click Misc in the left-hand panel.
  4. Under Misc, select the options you wish to enable, then click OK to apply your changes.

The automation properties that can be set for a virtual machine are described in the following table.

Option

Description

Power on when program starts

Check this option if you want the virtual machine to automatically power on after you start the virtual machine by using the command line.

If you choose this option, you do not have an opportunity to modify configuration options for the virtual machine prior to starting it. If you do not choose this option, you need to click Power On to start the virtual machine.

Switch to full screen at every power on

Check this option if you want the virtual machine to automatically expand to use the full screen after it is powered on. Full screen mode is available only when connecting to a virtual machine with a local console.

Exit the application after powering off or suspending

Check this option if you want to close the console automatically after powering off or suspending the virtual machine.

Find the best resolution in full screen mode

This option is on (enabled) by default. When it is enabled, VMware GSX Server uses the VidMode extension from the XFree86 Project to match the host resolution to the one requested by the guest running in the virtual machine.
