Configuring the Disk Mode for a Virtual Machine

VMware GSX Server affords you greater control by enabling you to choose the mode in which it manages the changes to the state of a virtual machine. When you initially create a virtual machine, you choose one of three disk modes: persistent, nonpersistent and undoable. You can change this setting at any time with the Configuration Editor.

To change the disk mode for a virtual machine:

  1. Connect to the virtual machine with a console. Make sure the virtual machine is powered off.
  2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the console.
  3. Select the virtual disk .
  4. Make a selection under Mode: Persistent, Nonpersistent, or Undoable. >>More information on disk modes
  5. Click OK.
