Enhancing Video in a Windows 2000 Guest Operating System Running Off a Dual-boot Raw Disk

To enhance video in a virtual machine with a Windows 2000 guest operating system, you must upgrade the SVGA driver. You must first install VMware Tools (including the SVGA display driver).

To upgrade Windows 2000 to use the new SVGA driver:

  1. Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel. This opens the Display Properties control panel.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
  4. Click the Adapter tab.
  5. Click the Properties button.
  6. Click the Driver tab.
  7. Click the Update Driver button. This starts the Upgrade Device Driver wizard. Click Next.
  8. Select the option labeled Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver. Click Next.
  9. Click the Have Disk button.
  10. Browse to the drivers subdirectory under your VMware Tools directory. For example, browse to the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\VMware\Drivers
  11. Select the VMware, Inc. SVGA display adapter option and click Next.
  12. Click Next again. Click Yes to indicate that you want to continue with the installation.
  13. Click the Finish button.
  14. Click Yes to restart Windows 2000 and start using the new video driver.
