Adding a Raw Disk to Your Virtual Machine

To add a raw disk to your virtual machine, follow these steps:

Note: Only advanced users should attempt this procedure.

  1. Select File > Open and open the virtual machine configuration file (.cfg) you want to modify.
  2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the console.
  3. Click the + sign next to IDE Drives or SCSI Devices.
  4. Select the specific device node from the corresponding list (under IDE Drives or SCSI Devices) for where you want to add the raw disk.
  5. Select Raw Disk from the Device Type field.
  6. Select a mode for the raw disk from the Mode field. >> More information on disk modes
  7. In the Name field, enter the path to the raw disk you want to use with this virtual machine. Be sure to select a location on your host machine's hard drive.
  8. If you are connecting to a virtual machine on a Linux host and you want to disable write caching, select the Disable write caching option.
  9. Click Install.
