Assigning Access Rights to Disk Partitions

Raw disk partitions can be assigned one of three access rights:

• no access
• read only
• read write

If a virtual machine attempts to read from or write to a disk partition marked no access, or to write to a read only partition, a pop-up dialog box asks you to approve or reject the operation. If you decide not to allow the read or write, the virtual machine terminates. If you are uncertain what access to assign to a partition, make it read only.
