Adding an Existing Virtual Disk to a Virtual Machine

To add an existing virtual disk:

  1. Select File > Open and open the virtual machine configuration file (.cfg) you want to modify.
  2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the console window.
  3. Click the + sign next to IDE Drives or SCSI Devices.
  4. Select the specific device node from the corresponding list (under IDE Drives or SCSI Devices) for where you want to create the virtual disk.
  5. In the Device Type list, choose the type of disk you are adding (virtual or raw).
  6. Click Choose and browse to select the disk you want to add.
  7. In the Mode list, choose one of the following:
  8. If you are connecting to a virtual machine on a Linux host and you want to disable write caching, select the Disable write caching option.
  9. Click Install to add the new disk to the virtual machine, then click OK to save your changes and close the Configuration Editor.
