- RUNE: An MIT
Journal of Arts and Letters exists to stimulate interaction
among members of the various literary and artistic communities in and
around MIT. It comprises 100 pages of photographs, paintings,
computer art, stories, essays, and poems by MIT students, faculty, and

- Technology Review is published by the Association of the Alumni and Alumnae of MIT. On the Air
- WMBR is MIT's
noncommercial, all volunteer radio station. Their signal can be heard
throughout the greater Boston area at 88.1 FM, 365 days a year, 18-22
hours per day.
- The MIT
Student Cable Group produces a wide range of television
programming available on MIT Cable Channel 36. Students play every
role in television production -- from direction to acting to technical
work -- on several continuing shows, and anyone is welcome to create
their own show.
Social Groups
Support Groups

GAMIT, or Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders, and Friends at
MIT, hosts study breaks, parties, support groups, and other activities
for members of MIT's Gay and Lesbian community.
- The MIT Vegetarian
Support Group is a very informal organization interested in
vegetarian issues. Membership is free, noncommittal and comes with NO
requirements (being vegetarian is not a prerequisite).

Services and Support
- The Student
Information Processing Board provides MIT with a variety of
computing services and promotes the use of computing resources at MIT,
including this WWW server.
- Athena Consultants are numerous
volunteers, paid workers and staff who answer all kinds of questions
about the Athena computer system and supported software.
- The MIT
Computer Connection provides the MIT community with access to the
highest quality mainstream microcomputer and workstation products and
services at the lowest possible prices.
Users Groups
- The OS/2 user's
group, for users of IBM's OS/2 operating system, which currently
runs on the Intel platform.
Computers and Art
- The MIT Computer Graphics Society
was created with the intention of providing student and MIT community
members with the ability to work on artistic projects on computers.
Their current efforts are in the area of computer graphics and
animation.
Miscellaneous
- 6.270, the
LEGO Robot Design Competition is an IAP activity in which student
teams design autonomous robots for a competition.
- 6.095/STS095: Ethics and
Law on the Electronic Frontier. This is a new course for Fall '94,
which makes extensive use of the Web. Topics: computer crime,
intellectual property restrictions on software, encryption and
privacy, First Amendment issues in cyberspace.
- The Center for Educational
Computing Initiatives (CECI)
Services
- The Lecture Series
Committee presents a variety of movies and lectures on the MIT
campus.
- Alpha Phi
Omega is a national, co-ed, service fraternity, centered on the
principles of leadership, friendship, and service. The Alpha Chi
chapter at MIT provides community service to the MIT campus, greater
Boston region, and the New England area.

MedLINKs are student volunteers who can help you with any
questions you might have about your health or the MIT Medical
Department.
- The MIT Entrepreneurs Club
(e-club) helps develop new business ventures. They meet weekly,
sponsor special events, and co-organize and produce the MIT $10K
Entrepreneurial Competition.
- Project America is
an initiative to inspire long-term, ongoing constructive action and
community responsibility by promoting and coordinating an annual
national community improvement day.

The Source, the information and service outpost in the lobby of the
Student Center, provides a variety of information to the MIT Community,
including Boston area and MIT events listings, Restaurant suggestions and
information, academic information, and connections to various sections
of TechInfo.
- The MIT Office of Career Services and
Preprofessional Advising is now running the H.I.R.E.S. interactive
career information system on the web. (MIT Only)
- The schedules for the SafeRide vans (MIT safety shuttles)

- The Cross Products are MIT's
coed Christian a cappella singing group.
- The MIT
Logarhythms are MIT's all-male a cappella singing group.
- The Chorallaries are MIT's loudest and
only secular coed a cappella singing group.
Dance
Theatre
- The Summer
Production Artistic Repertory Company is a theatre group that
produces summer shows on a sporadic basis.
- The MIT Musical Theatre
Guild is a theatre group that produces four full-scale musicals
each year. It is a student run extra-curricular theatre organization.
- The MIT
Dramashop is a theatre group that produces 2 full-scaled plays and
one evening of student-written student-directed one-acts each year. It
is a student run co-curricular theatre organization.
- The MIT Gilbert &
Sullivan Players perform the works of the British duo, Sir W. S. Gilbert
and Sir Arthur Sullivan, as well as related works. It is a student-run
extra-curricular theatre organization.
Centers and Galleries
- The List Visual Arts
Center explores the most contemporary art making in all media:
painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations, architecture
and design, and experimental works that resist easy classification.
- An Online Gallery
of photography is being compiled by the MIT Edergton Center in
collaboration with The Tech.

- The MIT Outing
Club provides backpacking, climbing, hiking, or whitewater
paddling gear, maps, and guidebooks for cheap rent to MIT affiliates.
- The MIT
Caving Club sponsors caving trips and rappelling practices for the
claustrophilic and acrophilic.
- The MIT Soaring
Association is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1968 to provide safe
and inexpensive soaring to our members. Free instruction for beginners through
advanced levels is provided by our FAA licensed instructors. We own five modern
sailplanes and a tug and fly every weekend, weather permitting, at Stirling
Mass.
Political Groups
Student Government
- Graduate Student Council represents
graduate student interests on campus by liasing with the
Administration and Faculty on the students behalf. They also organize
seminars and fun activities throughout the year including graduate
orientation week.
Religious Groups
- The MIT Pagan
Student Group is a support network for Pagans in the MIT community
which hosts semi-regular rituals and works to improve the image of
Paganism in the MIT community.
- United Christian R/O is a
conglomeration of about seventeen Christian organizations who
coordinate activities during MIT's freshman residence/orientation week
at the beginning of the Fall semester.
- The MIT Chinese Bible
Fellowship is a group of Christian students who meet regularly for
Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
- The
MIT Muslim Students' Association aims to help Muslims at MIT
practice Islam, to introduce Islam to non-Muslims and to foster the
spirit of Islam inside and outside MIT. MITMSA achieves this by organizing
religious, social and educational events throughout the year.
- The Christian Student
Association is a club that encourages the study and application
of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible in daily college life
through Bible study groups, prayer, worship services, community
service and recreational activities.
- Korean Baptist Student
Koinonia is a campus outreach of Berkland Baptist Church,
comprised mostly of Asian-American Christians on campus.
- The MIT Orthodox Christian
Fellowship is a group of students interested in learning about
living the traditional New Testament faith. They meet regularly for
fellowship, discussions, socials, lectures, retreats, church
visitations, and Orthodox Christian worship.
- MIT Hillel
- The MIT United Christian Fellowship is
a chapter of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.
Miscellaneous
- The MIT Anime
Club provides regular showings of Anime and an online library of
Anime-related text and scanned pictures to its members and the MIT
community.
- The MIT
Assassins' Guild runs a number of real-time, real-space,
live-action role-playing games each year.
- The High Power
Rocket Society is an a unofficial group which is working on
resurrecting the old Rocket Society, with a slant toward High Power
Rocketry.
- The MITSFS, the MIT Science
Fiction Society, has the largest open-shelf collection of science
fiction in the world.
- The MIT
Debate Team members partipate in weekly debate tournaments at
colleges and universities across America and the world.
- The MIT Integrated
Studies Program is an alternative freshman program which
emphasizes hands-on learning and integration of the sciences with the
humanities.
- The MIT
Solar Electric Vehicle Team is a student team that designs, builds,
and races solar and electric vehicles around the country and around the
world.
- The MIT American Indian Science and
Engineering Society AISES is a national-based professional
engineering organization.
- The MIT Students for the Exploration and
Development of Space provides opportunities for students to get
involved in the science, enginnering, education and policy aspects of
our future in space.

- BUSA, the Biology Undergraduate Student Association provides
information about upcoming events, and links to major WWW biology locations.
- The
MIT 24-Hour Coffeehouse, run by Students, serves coffee, food,
and other necessities 24 hours a day. Located on the sunny 3rd floor
of the Student Center, drop by for the cheapest coffee on campus
(other than what you make yourself) and listen to our choice of
carefully screened music, provided by our friendly DJs.
- Eta Kappa Nu
is the National Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Honor Society. We
strive to improve the EECS department and its education environment.
- AFROTC Detachment
365 serves MIT, Harvard, Tufts, and Wellesley. Full tuition
scholarships
are available from the Air Force, for two to four years, plus books
and stipend.

creating opportunities for students to engage in invention and

railroading, including the application of computer technology and
