Changing the Name of a Virtual Machine

To change the name of a virtual machine:

Open the virtual machine that has the name you want to change. Do not power it on.
Select Edit > Virtual Machine Settings and click the Options tab.
Highlight the name indicated in the Virtual machine name entry field.
Enter a new name.
Click OK.

The name of the virtual machine is displayed in the Favorites list and on the tab for that machine in the virtual machine display.

Changing the Guest Operating System Type

To change the guest operating system type:

Select the appropriate guest operating system from the drop-down menu
Click OK.

When you change the operating system type using the Guest operating system drop-down menu, this changes the setting for the guest operating system type in the virtual machine's configuration file. It does not actually change the guest operating system itself.

When you set the guest operating system type while creating a new virtual machine (for example, through the New Virtual Machine Wizard), GSX Server chooses configuration defaults based on the guest type. However, changing the guest type on this panel simply changes the guest type setting in the configuration file.

Changing the Working Directory

The working directory is where GSX Server stores snapshot and redo log files. By default, this directory is the same as where the virtual machine files are stored.

To change the working directory for a particular virtual machine:

Enter the name of a directory to use, or click Browse to select a directory.
Click OK.
