During our sophomore year, we had a class named "Ship Construction and Drawing" in which we first contacted the knowledge about ship structure after entering the university. Yet, it is kind of boring and definitely not vivid for us to just look at those different lines and what they represents, bold solid lines for web beam, dotted line for deck longitudinal and so on. And also It is also hard for us to imagine how those structures are assembled. So after talking with Associate Prof. Jiang and interviewing with some seniors who have internship in Chang Shi shipyard, a Japanese ship factory, I proposed the idea of making a model of a section of a container ship and also creating the corresponding animation of how this section being built. The responses from the students and professors were really exciting that, they all viewed, it was a very good opportunity for the students to have a better understanding of the ship structure. Therefore, today the modeling has become a team project for all the students who attend this class and the animation is a valuable material for the students. Original section plan and 3-D Structures:
