- Mary Baily BARNETT, b. ca. 1799 in Ireland, m. 14 Mar 1817 Abraham LOCKETT (b. in Co. Tyrone, d. 10 May 1834 at the
Cape of Good Hope), d. reg. Q1 1867 at Stoke on Trent R.D. (or d. 15 Jan 1878 per ref. 5b). Abraham joined the Indian
Army as an ensign and ended as a colonel. He saw active service, including being wounded at the siege of Bhurtpore. Fluent
in 11 languages, he became examiner of languages at Fort William College, Calcutta. He was subsequently resident of
Ajmere, then Bhurtpore, then Lucknow, and finally the Oude provinces. In poor health, he set out to return home, but
died en route. In 1851, Mary was a fundholder and pensioner, living at Catisfield, Hampshire, with her daughter Eliza,
Eliza's children Thomas, Eliza, Mary, John, and Emma, her half-sisters Sarah and Jannette, visitor John B. GARDINER (a
landed proprietor, b. ca. 1813 at Fareham, Hampshire), a governess, and six house servants. In 1861, she was the widow of
an officer in the East India Service, living at Jordan House, London Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, with her half-sisters
Sarah and Julia, Sarah's daughter Janetta, a lady's maid, and a nurse. [ref. 1,3b,3c,4c,5a,7]

butler, a footman, a cook, two housemaids, a kitchenmaid, a coachman and his wife and two daughters, two grooms, and a
gardener and his wife. In 1911, John was a major late of the 78th Highlanders, of Castle Toward, Argyll. During the Indian

cook, and a footman. In 1891, living at Shawford House, Guyford, Hampshire, with her husband Charles (a baronet living on
his own means), their children Charles, Edward, and Florence, a maid, a nurse, a cook, a kitchenmaid, a scullery maid, a
housemaid, an under housemaid, a footman, a butler, the butler's wife and son, and a couple who were visiting the
butler. In 1901, living at "Sandhurst" (a lodging house), 39 Clarence Parade, Portsmouth, Hampshire, with her husband
Charles (a justice of the peace), their daughter Florence, and a lady's maid. Charles was educated at Eton, joined the
10th Hussars at age 18, exchanged into the 21st Hussars as a captain in 1873, was promoted to major in 1881, and retired

31st Madras (Trichinopoly Light) Native Infantry on 27 Oct 1834, a lieutenant on 29 Nov 1836 (effective 27 Dec 1836), and
a brevet captain on 14 Dec 1847. He was appointed senior assistant to the Commissioner of Tenasserim Province on 12 Jun
1849. On 21 Jun 1850 he resigned his commission. In 1871, he was a gentleman, boarding at 43 Godolphin Road, Hammersmith,
