Battle Lake

The city of Battle Lake, MN is actually located on West Battle Lake. My family has a cabin on the western shore, just north of town. Like good Minnesotans, we call it "the lake" and our place is "the cabin" and our boat is "the boat." (For those really familiar with the stereotypes, yes, we do have a pontoon with green carpeting and cupholders and we do take it out fishing for walleye.)

My family at the lake includes both my immediate family (mother, Kathy, father, Russ, and younger sister, Anne) and the Simensons (Wendy, Steve, and Forrest) who we share the cabin with. Forrest has gone over to the dark side and is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin. (Yes, there is a difference between Minnesota and Wisconsin.)

Besides people, three dogs occasionally reside at The Cabin. My family has a schnoodle (half-schnauser half-poodle) named Yoda "Fucking Ugly" Gary Cooper the Rat Bastard, or Cooper for short. The Simensons have two gorgeous golden retrievers, the well behaved Remington, or Remy, and the slightly insane Caliente, or Callie.
