They escape in time, winding up in the jail cell Martin & Mikele are now in (in Amber though!)

Lots of prisoners are released and all escape to Dworkin's study, whereupon he explains the nature of the universe. Sort of. Nikrowd recaps for those who didn't follow it the first time.
