Domestic: RA/TA Position or Other Employment
Quick Links
- If you hold an RA/TA position or some other type of employment, you will be issued a W-2 form by your employer
- The W-2 form lists your salary earned and the federal and state taxes that have been deducted from your salary during the tax year
- Students are exempt from Medicare and Social Security taxes for 5 calendar years. If these taxes have been deducted (will be listed on the W-2), contact MIT Payroll
- You will receive three copies of your W-2 with specific copies to be attached with federal and state tax returns; the third copy is for your records.
- If you are living in a dorm or have been in Massachusetts for < 183 days, you may qualify to be a nonresident for state tax purposes. More about filing nonresident state taxes
