- 1040EZ is the simpler version of form 1040
- If you have dividends, capital gains/losses, child care, education expenses, moving expenses etc, you may consider filling out Form 1040 instead
- Form 1040EZ is divided into the following
sections (for "single" and "married filing jointly with no dependents"):
- Lines 1-4 is for income details
- Line 5 is for exemptions ($8200 if single, $16,400 if married filing jointly)
- Lines 7-10 is for tax you have paid and credits you are eligible for
- If you deserve a refund, mention bank details on line 11. It is highly recommended to get direct deposit rather than request a check for a faster refund and safety in transfer of money

- Form 1040 is divided into

- Lines 1-3 is for filing status
- Line 6 is for details on dependents (e.g. spouse, children)
- Lines 7-22 is for income details (wages, capital gain, self-employed, dividends etc)
- Lines 23-37 is for adjustments (Tuition, Health expenses- not insurance, moving etc)
- Lines 38-63 is for calculation of tax and credits
- Lines 64-71 is for tax and other payments you have already made
- Line 72-74 is for bank account details for a refund
- Other forms you may receive that need to be entered on the 1040

- After you have computed taxable income on form 1040 or 1040EZ, you may figure your tax owed using a tax table
- If you deserve a refund, you will need your bank account's routing and account numbers.
- If you owe tax, you should make a payment
