2006 Season Preview: August 2006 -- MIT enters the 2006 season returning 14 previous letter winners with 25 seasons of experience. The Engineers will be led by five seniors: Mary Harding, Ashleigh Leonard, Andrea Staid, Kat Vater, and Chi-Fong Wang. Harding and Vater will captain the team. All five seniors have seen significant playing time over the previous three seasons. Wang will lead the defensive from her central position. Harding’s offensively minded play will combine with both Wang and Leonard, who plays central midfield. Staid returns to wing midfield after a year-long exchange with Cambridge University, where she played for their football club. Vater brings three seasons of goalkeeping experience to the net for MIT. MIT coach Krista Fulton will lead the engineers for the second time. Returning NEWMAC award winner Amy Ludlum, a junior, who had eight goals last season, will lead the Tech offense. Sophomore Andrea Bradshaw led the 2005 squad with two assists. The returning MIT squad, several rookie upperclassmen, and the Class of 2010 have 17 regular season matches scheduled. They will meet both UMass – Dartmouth and Worcester State College for the first time in non-conference games. The Engineers open the 2006 season at home with traditional first-game opponent Brandeis University on September 2, 2006. |
