Enabling Devices to Work With Virtual Machines

Each virtual machine provides a platform that includes the devices that your guest operating system can see. You can use the Devices menu in the remote console to connect removable virtual devices to the server's physical devices, disconnect virtual devices from the server's physical devices, or edit the configuration of a disconnected removable virtual device. Not all devices are removable.

Select a device below for information on how to make it work with a virtual machine:

• CD-ROM drive or CD-ROM image
• Floppy drive or Floppy image
• Mouse
• Parallel port device
• Printer
• SCSI device
• Serial port device

Other resources that your guest operating system can use include:

• BIOS. Virtual machines are compatible with PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.
• Keyboard. You can use most common keyboards with a vitual machine. >>More information on issues with keyboards
• Memory. Depending on host memory and other factors, virtual machines created with this version of VMware ESX Server can have up to 3.6GB of memory allocated. >>More information
