Why can't I finger someone?

Generally when our finger gateway responds with a message telling you that permission was denied, or something similiar, the problem is caused by the behavior of the machine at which you were trying to finger. We have no control over whether a server runs a finger daemon; if a site chooses not to run one, you will be unable to finger at it. In particular, you cannot usually finger AOL users.
