Questions about Services and Scripts
I'm using WebTV...?
We're sorry. That service seems to be incompatible with many
services, including TransWeb. See below for one possible solution sent
in by one WebTV user (the webmasters make no guarantees that they'll
work for you).
If you have problems, we suggest you
contact WebTV.
First, all MSN-TV users who want to incorporate graphics into
their e-mail or web-pages should attain a method for doing so without
linking. There are several options available, but they should not think
that they are entitled to use them with no expense to themselves just
because they do not have a computer. Pay a little something or don't use
them.
Secondly, that specific tool (and others which are similar)
does not work with animated images.
I don't use a transloader,
for several reasons.
- It's very hard to find one that's not
constantly busy. You can try to access transloader.com or star.blvd.com
all day and still get the message: "The site is too busy to be contacted
at this time. Try again later."
- If you use one of the FTP's, you
will most likely be attacked by banners and advertizing. Nothing is
"free".
- Your graphic files can be entered and items taken for use by
other web-users.
- Many transloaders have
size-limitations.
- Other options require "cookies" to be enabled,
which may open a whole new can of worms.
- Have you ever tried to
get an answer to a question from a real person at one of the "free"
hosts? It's just not going to happen.
I am sendng the steps I followed using the "Beamer" at wtv-zone and
their tool box. It's probably similar to transloaders, but I haven't
used any of them. With that in mind, here are simple, but detailed
directions for making an animated gif transparent with MSN-TV and "the
Zone".
- Log onto your wtv-zone account.
- Click on "Tool Rack".
- Click on the button marked "GW" ("Gif Works").
- Click on "File".
- Click on "Open".
- Enter the url.
- Click on "Fetch".
- Click on "Edit".
- Click on "Transparify".
- An image-map with arrow will come
up. Click once to activate the map.
- Move the arrow to
any place on the background and click "Return".
- Click on "View".
- There will be a place that says, "MSN-TV Users:
Click here for a temporary url."
- The image will appear
on your screen with only the black background. Click the "Options"
button.
- Click on "Show Current".
- Cut &
copy the temporary url to your clipboard.
- Go to the
"Beamer" (or transloader) and move the "temporary" url to your permanent
files (or FTP host).
It looks like a lot of steps, but I detailed it
so that anyone can do it.
