Configuration Wizard

The Configuration Wizard steps through the process of configuring a virtual machine. It presents you with a series of screens that you navigate using the Next and Back buttons at the bottom. At each screen, follow the instructions and then click the Next button to proceed to the next screen. In most cases, the Configuration Wizard provides appropriate default settings for a virtual machine.

Clicking the Help button opens a pop-up window with context-sensitive help. The Help text also includes links to relevant online documents (text in blue — clicking it opens a browser session and takes you to that page).

While the Configuration Wizard is the easiest way to define a new virtual machine, the Configuration Editor must be used to modify an existing configuration.

The configuration settings for a virtual machine are stored in a configuration file (.cfg). By default the Configuration Wizard creates a configuration file and other data files, such as a virtual disk file (.vmdk) and a BIOS nvram file, in a common directory. The Configuration Wizard configures the location in which these files are stored.
